Engaging whole congregations and the wider community is a key part of the Net Zero Carbon & Eco Church programme, alongside making church buildings more sustainable and care for creation as a whole.

Here in the Diocese of Blackburn we have asked Faiths4Change to help support our churches in fully embracing their Eco Church journey.

As of August 2026, 126 churches are registered with Eco Church across our Diocese, with 46 achieving Bronze, 13 Silver, and 0 Gold awards.

We’d love to help more churches get their first Eco Church award, email [email protected] and we will arrange to meet with you online or in person.

Growing Your Impact: Taking the Next Steps with Eco Church Webinar

On 3rd September 2026, Faiths4Change curated an inspiring online session exploring how churches can take their next steps with Eco Church.

Speakers Polly Eaton from A Rocha UK, Cyril Moyo from Hope for the Future and Jenny Griggs from Natural England shared practical ideas around sustainable lifestyles, engaging MPs and local councilors, caring for church land, building local partnerships and finding funding for environmental projects.

Participants also shared their own experiences, from simple everyday actions and community composting to political engagement, protecting green spaces and improving local recycling and active travel.

A key message from the evening was that small actions, strong partnerships and constructive local engagement can all add up to meaningful change.
